I wonder how long he's been sitting there?

I guess that means your illustration was very effective in creating a little world, since it's got me thinking more about the scene.

There's different ways to think about it. They'd could easily be stuck in a strange place. But if they're physically adapted to survive in that environment- shallow water and whatever other restrictions there are, hinted at by the lungfish like lobed fins - they should be happy in being in their natural habitat, and yearning to be something their not is an even more tragic scene. Or maybe that's just me BSing
